Who Needs Matching Hardware?

After almost 15 years with cheap gold PVD buckles (both blushed and polished) and about five years of monitoring eBay and Chrono24 for something reasonably priced, I recently purchased a matching pin buckle for my Girard Perregaux. It made me wonder what other’s think about having matching hardware.

Do you feel like you need a matching OEM pin buckle or clasp? OEM strap or bracelet? Just matching material and finish? Period accurate? Who cares?

For me, if a watch is in my permanent collection, I think:

Bracelet/Pin buckle (basically any metal component): OEM with matching material and finish

Strap: Don’t care, whatever looks and feels best

With my bronze watch, I can’t wear steel hardware. It hurts my head.

The pin & buckle finish must match the case, that's my only "rule."

It doesn't have to be branded. Shoot, no one knows what watch we're wearing anyway, let alone a small brand logo on the underside of our wrist on a small piece of metal.

Mannn, I'm beyond nitpicky when it comes to matching metals/finishings. I can't mix gold and steel or bronze with rose gold. Either the hardware perfectly matches or I just won't wear a watch that day, lmao.

I think this is pretty much my thought my Seikos and the like. With my GP, I felt like it was worth splurging given I was looking at 18k buckles.
