Service/Revision at the manufacturer/AD or independent watchmaker?

Hey Crunchers, where would you consider servicing your watch if costs are the same for either of the above mentioned options? Manufacturer for probably best knowledge over product and availability of service parts or building "credit" at the AD or supporting the locals?

All depends. The manufacturer is liable to polish your vintage watch and destroy 90% of its value. Even if you ask them not to it's not a risk I'm willing to take.

The local watchmaker could be great, could be terrible. Again, not a risk I'm willing to take.

AD - I don't see why would I pay them a fat mark up to send it either to the manufacturer or a sub-contractor?

That's why I go with an online independent specialist who has a good track record and complete transparency about their people and the service - multiple photo updates during the work.

As he made a fabolous job with my grail i d go to him every time again (local Watchmaker)

Rolex, Omega, GO, other specialized movement? OEM/AD only every time without consideration for any local or online shop. ETA or Sellita? Trusty local(ish) watchmaker.

What am I missing here? If you take it to the AD, chances are it’s going to the manufacturer.

·

Manufacturer for more valuable pieces.

Yes but in my case the AD also does repair watches of brands which are sold in the store. So something in between OEM and Watchmaker.
