Hamilton…an American icon

The Hamilton Watch Company, founded in 1892 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, has a rich and enduring history marked by innovation, wartime contributions, and a strong presence in popular culture.

#hamilton initially gained acclaim for its pocket watches, recognized for their precision and quality. During World War I, the company played a pivotal role by supplying the U.S. military with reliable timepieces. This dedication to accuracy and durability contributed significantly to the success of military operations.

As the 20th century progressed, Hamilton shifted its focus to wristwatches, aligning with the changing trends. In the 1930s, the brand became a prominent figure in the watch industry, introducing stylish and reliable wristwatches that resonated with consumers.

One of Hamilton's groundbreaking moments came in 1957 with the launch of the Hamilton Ventura, the world's first electric watch. This bold step into innovative technology solidified Hamilton's reputation as a forward-thinking watchmaker.

The brand's connection with Hollywood began in the 1930s, as Hamilton watches started making appearances in various films. However, it was in 1961 when Hamilton achieved iconic status with its role in Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey." The futuristic design of the Hamilton watches in the film perfectly captured the spirit of the space-age

In the subsequent decades, Hamilton continued to evolve, combining American heritage with Swiss precision. The brand expanded its product lines, introducing new models that showcased a commitment to craftsmanship and design. Hamilton watches became synonymous with reliability, style, and a touch of Hollywood glamour.

Today, the Hamilton Watch Company stands as a respected and enduring name in the watchmaking industry. With a legacy that spans over a century, Hamilton's watches continue to embody a harmonious blend of innovation, precision, and cultural significance.

What Murph you like more?

What Murph you like more?

I would say it depends on my mood, but I would say the SMurph is generally a bit less noticeable on the wrist thus can be more comfortable depending on what I am doing.

But what size?

But what size?

SMurph = 38 mm

Murph = 42 mm

Again it depends on my mood.

Hamilton also bought Buren who developed the first micro rotor automatic movement which was revolutionary and enabled far thinner automatics. Before thinness went out of fashion in the mass market in favour of chunk.

Hamilton were also a key part of the "Arsenal of Democracy" in World War 2 producing war-winning high tech.

The high tech saved many lives as it enabled the democracies to kill the fascist enemy without having to use allied soldiers as cannon fodder.

A-11 pilot watch. These were contracted out during the war and made by several companies.

Again it depends on my mood.

I bought the 38 first as I have a 6.3 inch wrist. Then I went for the 42 and surprisingly I liked it more.
