I was hooked as a kid with my first Timex. Had a few Guccis and Movados through my 20s, and known to always have several watches it really took off in my 40s when I went crazy over vintage. I am appreciate the artistic nature of the older models.
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
Timex Mickey Mouse analog.
Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?
My Dad's 1976 Seiko Bell-Matic. it practically looks like NOS because he almost never wore it. in fact, I didn't even know he had it until less than 10 years ago, when I entered my 50s.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
Make a rule to only purchase what you can afford and what you will definitely wear, so it must have functionality. then buy a watch box and only fill the slots of the box, and no more. if you buy a new watch, one must go to make room. Otherwise, your watches will control you.
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
Bulova and Seiko for variety in case size, dial design, movement, function, etc. If I could afford it, Christopher Ward woukd be an awesome addition.
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
Not sure, because the JLC Reverso has always been at the top of my list, but the more I think about it, the less I think I would actually wear it. It cannot withstand shock, rain, swim, sports, etc., so I would never really enjoy wearing it but rather just looking at it.
