Tudor. . . What should have been 2023

Just a thought. Wouldn’t it have been amazing if Tudor this year went all in on the black bay anniversary and came out with not only the burgundy black bay updated but also did the 54 in burgundy? I think this would have been much stronger as a release than the black bezel. I mean they could have done both but come on that would have been a boss move really leaning into it! Thoughts?

I think Tudor knows the market better than we do, and released exactly the watch they thought would sell best.

Most people want simple watches that go with anything, not flashy watches with "presence".

I’m a fan of the other bezel colors, but you’re probably right. Sometimes I wonder if it’s about knowing the market so much as a popular brand just saying “screw it, they’ll buy whatever we put out.”

Tudor is being strategic; testing the market with a 37mm watch. Being that it seemed to be a hit, I’m sure they’ll release a different color in 2024.

For the anniversary specifically, I think he’s saying a burgundy bezel would have been apropos, since the black bay wouldn’t even exist if it weren’t for that colour. I think it’s less about knowing the market (bc a black bezel will always sell for them) and more about a tribute to the original. I know I would have been interested if they did that 💜

I think the watch community overestimated the "significance" of things a lot, and I strongly suspect the burgundy bezel is one of those things. Just because that's what made the BB popular in the watch community does not mean that's what actually made the BB popular.

Tudor exists to make money, if they thought a hot pink bezel would make money, they'd sell one...
