Decluttering / making space / consolidating / culling the herd

I had a change of heart.

I need to create some space. I like all of them in some specific way but they don't get much wrist time and I feel more and more like they're eating up space both physically and mentally. So this is it: chapter one of reducing the size of the collection: these are the first wave of watches I'm selling.

(anyone who is curious, they'll be online on C24 shortly)

Next step will be to decide between my Sinn 104 and my SPB143 which one goes, which one stays, but I'm leaving this decision for a couple of weeks from now.

Has any of you been through a similar phase of "reset" ? If yes, what motivated it ? what did you learn from it ?

Cheers Crunchers!

The Sinn has to stay!

I know... I made the post for it on C24, and it gave me cold sweat 🤣

·

Ive never sold a watch. Most have little value and the others have too much sentimental value.

·

I’ve sold 2 so far - no big reset like you’re planning. Since I’ll have a few more in the next year I’ll probably try to sell a couple more

few in, few out - part of the fun! 👍

·

How much are you going to ask for the Yema if I can ask?

·

I've never tried trade-ins but that's interesting. Although, when considering my possible next purchase, I doubt a Rolex AD would be any interested in an Islander field watch or a Citizen diver haha.

If I count correctly I've purchased 5 and sold 7 watches on C24. The only scare I had was last month when a watch I sold showed delivered and the buyer said he had not found it. it took two days to figure out a neighbour had picked it up for him.

So C24 has been very useful to me. On the other hand I so do not trust eBay! No specific reason, I've almost never used it, just a feeling.

That's right, it's a good way to put it. Right now I feel there's been too many ins and not enough outs 😀

You’re a man of strategy! That’s way smarter than what I do. I might just be too shy to try and negociate that way.

As for Rolex, I just plain refuse to go on the used market and pay a premium fueled by speculation.

I did something similar years ago. I ended up trading in a dozen watches and buying one really great one. I advise selling them all and buying one great every day watch with the proceeds.

It certainly looks like this is the direction I'm taking 😉

Go to a good AD that accepts trades if you can afford to take a small loss. It’ll save you the hassle and help build a relationship while you’re at it.

I've started to talk with an AD for the next watch, but they only carry premium / luxury brands. I think the lowest tier was Longines. They wouldn't be remotely interested in any of what I'm selling, it might even do me a dis-service to put it on the table.

But I see your point and in other circumstances I would probably try that.

If you’re west coast, my AD (Topper Jewelers) would likely take your Citizen, Longines, Sinn, Seiko, and/or Yema. Leftovers you can dump on eBay or gift to your lucky friends. Ask for Joe and tell him Raymond sent you - he handles their trades and is a stand up guy.
