Fun in Phuket
We are off to Phuket in Thailand for some R&R in December. Hoping to stay in some nice hotels, enjoy some great food and a little beach time.
It's the first trip with our newborn, so I expect we'll be relatively unadventurous; hotel-beach-restaurant-supermarket.
Given the sheer amount of tourism and subsequent wealth disparity, I am expecting a bit of petty crime around; pick-pockets and the like. But how clued in are the criminals on watches? Is it a thing, or can I wear my Explorer on a bracelet for an evening meal without attracting unwanted attention? Coming from London it would be really refreshing if I can just chill and enjoy my watches..
Any other tips on Phuket welcome - we are very excited to be back in Asia after far too long.

There’s a massive fake watch market there so I doubt anyone will care what you wear. They’ll probably assume it’s a knock off.
Generally the Thai people of Phuket are polite respectful and really friendly. Just be a bit alert if you accidentally wander into the seedy parts..

Good point! If everyone's floating around in flashy looking stuff, I'll be much more comfortable.

I was there in 2017 and we were approached numerous times by people offering us luxury bags, clothes watches etc. Apparently they were triple A quality replicas whatever that means.
We also avoided the main beach by bangla road as it was just full of tourists and asked our guide to take us around more secluded places. Kata/Karon was really nice from memory as was Bang Tao.
What a week that was…

Jokes aside; I am sure it's going to be quite sad seeing the different desperations at play in the s3x tourism. The desperate men, and the desperate women.
