Move back to the 80s? (yes please)

“As connoisseurs return to these watches—and brands mine this decade for inspiration—we’re seeing a larger evolution of taste. Watch lovers are finally moving on from the same old sport models and becoming more receptive to challenging, distinctive designs. In the process, they’re finding great watches from a decade when the industry was redefining itself.”

I fully support this trend towards gold and a lessening fixation on the same “sport” models

Last few years have been focused on "sport" models, a lot of integrated bracelets and reissued 70s designs.

80s is the next stop on the nostalgia train. All aboard.

I don't know everything about 80s watches but can't imagine myself buying a gold or gold pvd watch x😅

Save this post and look back at it next year…and let me know if you still feel the same (when all the new releases from this year have dropped - and most will feature gold or 2 tone)

Never objected to gold, not much of a 2 tone fan, bought quite a few watches during the 80s, reflecting further very similar to models from brands that I still purchase today: a few Omegas, some iteration of the Cartier Santos and Breitling Chronomats and Navitimers with a few triple calendar moonphases mixed in. No interest in wide shoulder DB gangster style suit jackets and pleated peg leg trousers, topped with belted trench coats that recall a certain regime that wanted to conquer the world. Didn’t the 80s fashion trends begat the bigger watch trends also?

They started trending that way towards the end. But the 90s/2000s really bright the bigger watches into play. That said size is relative to the generation. 37 was Jumbo in the early 80s

My Breitling watches were 38 and even larger. 🥲

I would love this. Concord could be making a huge comeback, but they aren’t doing anything interesting. I have a feeling the delirium, Mariner, centurion, and saratoga from the 80s/90s will start becoming more popular again. I also would love to see Ebel start focusing more on their classic pieces from the same era.
