Universal Geneve Shadow Range

I may be a bit biased (as I own a few of these) but I think that the Shadow range from Universal is one of the most underrated ranges they made.

The original design is a Genta one (as all be best ones are haha) and it houses an amazing microtor movement. At only 2.5mm thick for the non date version and adjusted in two positions it was highly advanced for the time as well as accurate.

To put this into perspective these came out in about 1965, Patek didn't bring out a microtor until 1977 (with the cal 240) and even then it was 2.57mm thick.

The top of the range were the Golden Shadows. Available in various case styles and 18k yellow (the most common) and 18k white gold (much rarer). These were incredibly thin watches with the example I have pictured coming in at just 5.7mm thick.

Any other fans of this range of watches on here?

I haven't heard of these watches, but they look super sharp!

Love that White Shadow.

shhhh…. 🙂 I love these and I’d like to pick up a white shadow with the romans and a C style case. I’m not really a big roman numerals guy, but the design on these are soooo good. Almost pulled the trigger but decided to wait for one with no date.

Bought this off a friend - near as I can tell it's the same case shape as the gilt shadow albeit manually wound so no fancy micro rotor. Still a very classic and elegant piece which my fat wrist unfortunately does no justice.

My most beloved watch is this Golden Shadow from 1967 (Caliber 66). It is in pitiful condition, but that doesn‘t bother me at all, as it shows all the tear from decades of wear by my father. Thus I love every scratch and would not want to refurbish this memorabilia.
