The Seiko Presage ‘Sharp Edge’ Series White (SPB165J1)

Every watch has a story- It was late night on 24th Feb.. I was scrolling through a watch marketplace on Facebook and came across the brilliant Grand Seiko Shunbun.. really liked it, contacted the seller and he turned out to be a nice guy.. with a long chit chat on our respective collections, he offered a decent price for the Shunbun and I asked him to hold the watch for a day.. the next day was Sunday and I went see the watch at a multi brand store to get a real feel of the same..

Loved the GS Shunbun and the GS Snowflake... the store offered me a great price for both and I was toying with the idea of picking up one right then… but just then the consultant showed me the GS White Birch.. Oh Boy! This was an amazing piece.. I don’t recall having seen any watch more beautiful than this ever before.. that’s a big statement but I mean it.. sadly the price was nearly double than that of the Snowflake.. so I thought I shall take a day to think and decide.. it was to evaluate the risk of being thrown out of home by my wife if got this beauty in 😀..

Then next few days were restless as I really wanted to have one of Grand Seikos and wisdom advised otherwise.. during the course of the day yesterday, I came across a Seiko Boutique which did not keep any GS of KS.. I had a little time in hand so I walked in just to have a look at the Seiko watches.. shared my plight about my GS aspirations to the young enthusiastic watch consultant who was showing me the watches and after some time he asked me to wait as he wanted to show me a watch which was kept in the back store.. I waited, trying on various Seiko watches.. Seiko does have a brilliant collection at all possible price points.. he came back in about 10 minutes and showed me this watch..

*The Seiko Presage White (SPB165J1):* It had an angular style to the Presage collection, visible from the dial pattern to the sharp edges of the case shape. Simplicity & Detailing on this watch exemplified Japanese artistry to perfection.. The dial pattern is said to have been inspired by a traditional Japanese artistic design of a plant grown in Japan for over 10,000 years - hemp. This ancient pattern has been seen in Japanese artisan objects since the Heian period (794-1185)..

This Seiko Presage Sharpedge was quite a looker and came at 1/10th the price of the GS White Berch and about and about 1/6th the price of the GS Snowflake.. the looks, the bracket and design elements also were in a similar direction.. wore the watch and it felt it was mine… the enthusiastic consultant offered me a good discount and I wasted no time in buying it and carring it home..

This is a beautiful watch and looks amazing and premium… the feel is nothing less than a GS.. so my GS itch has been contained for now and am happy wearing this beauty.. The GS WB is still there in my mind and I might just pick it up someday..
