#NWA - 1950's Roamer Supershock

It's finally arrived! This watch has been a couple months in the making! I've always loved the design, the 3-6-9-12 dial layout, as well as the patterning accentuating the numbers! However, I've spent a long time searching for one with this exact configuration, in decent condition, for an acceptable price, and from a relatively trustworthy source.

I've had a few back and forth conversations with some sellers, and I never found myself confident with the exchange. (Context: I've jumped into a couple buys way too easily, and have ended up with duds, hence why I'm extra careful nowadays!)

Suddenly, one of these pops up on my FB feed from an 'affordable watch group' I'm a member of! One of the members had recently acquired, cleaned, lubricated, and regulated it, and was wanting to sell. Even better, he was in my country! After a little back and forth for more pictures, and information about the piece, I jumped on the chance within an hour of seeing the post! (Despite having promised myself to wait at least 2 to 3 months before my next purchase....)

It arrived at my store yesterday, after I had clocked out for the weekend. When I got the text from my staff, I got up to make the 40min round trip, but a stern look from my wife suggested that perhaps I should stay home and go the next day instead. 🤣

12 agonizing hours later, I finally have this beauty in hand, and on wrist! Absolutely gorgeous! Patina on the dial, gold plating coming off in spots, but ticking away nicely at +/- 20sec/day, 0.9ms beat error! (It's at least 70 years old!) Had a wee photoshoot when I got it home.

Dimensions: 33m (w/o crown), 41mm lug to lug, 11mm thick, 17mm lug width. Shot on my 17cm (6.69inch) wrist. Thanks for looking everyone, hope you enjoy the pictures as much as I did taking them!

Congrats on a lovely piece!

Thank you! 😁 It looks even better in person (but definitely smaller)! Vintage always hits like that I feel, looks amazing, but can seem a touch smaller in person. Rocking it as my weekend watch anyways 😎

Wonderful looking piece! Keeping it on the bracelet? Or are you planning on some leather as well?

Brown leather is my first choice

Brown leather is my first choice

If you get the chance, try it on a brown/burgundy one. Really works well with the patina on the gold plating!

Here's mine, arrived today. No idea of its age, seeing yours, guess they're the same age?

That's a great looking watch mate! How'd you feel about it now that you've got it in hand? I remember when I got mine, my first though was, 'Oh it IS a touch small...oh well, no worries!" 😂

And how's the crown? Mine sticks just slightly when bringing out into the first position.

Do you know anything about the movement used? I based the age estimate on the movement, as the calibre used in mine was made in-house by Roamer for a short period of time between 1950(ish) to approx. 1960(ish).

Yes, it's tiny😂

Crown needs a tug to get it out far enough to adjust the time.

No idea about the movement unfortunately.

All I think I know😂

The crown will just pull out, without having to open the case.

The movent is pushed out of the back of the case.

I watched Kalle Slappes Youtube channel "Chronoglide" he took a roamer apart, with a brevette case.
