Hello Crunchers!
Following on from my previous post about date/no-date dials, I've been on a 2-day obsession about my current watch collection and how I want to move forward. (A bit of self-reflection never hurt anyone ๐)
I'm especially loving the concept of having mini collections, which make up a larger whole. To that end, I've split up my wish list/owned watches into 3-watch collections, mostly separated by brand. However, there's some mixed categories as well. It's taken me a fair few hours of culling, researching, re-categorizing, re-organizing, etc. to arrive at this point in time! ๐คฃ
Is this something any of you can relate with? Or have I just gone a touch bananas? Let us know what you think of the list, or my approach to collecting! Would love to hear if anyone likes doing things in this way as well!
Many thanks!
EDIT: The prices are all converted to NZD! Don't worry... I'm not planning to pay massively inflated prices for these! (I've had a few comments mentioning some people were worried ๐)

IMO if you donโt have a spreadsheet youโre mad ๐

Just giving you a hard time my friend. A lot of work and thought went into that spreadsheet. Very impressive. I donโt have the patience for that, but itโs nice work ๐ I just like to open my watch box and say:

I also do that as well ๐

Also... That's only half of the spreadsheet... ๐ There's a lot more to it, but I thought I'd just share the core essentials๐

Donโt show your full insanity all at once. Good thinking ๐๐

Not a very faithful one given all the digital watches youโve got haha

Only half a spreadsheet at a time. ๐

Baby steps.
I've heard these "cellular phones" might be gaining popularity.๐ค
Sounds like an oppo for an app for watch collectors, or an extension of this appโฆ Just sayinโ.

I hadn't thought of that! I just keep shuffling, reorganizing, categorising my pieces (and pieces I want). If it helps someone, cool! ๐ I'm more interested in if there's other's out there that do it like this, and how they collect!
I love this. I have a spreadsheet (not as sophisticated) which I will share soon.
Oh awesome! I'd love to see how you organise it! I think for me it comes down to just organising how I think about the watches on my mind/in my collection. Doesn't necessarily mean I'll buy them, but at least I'd know where they'd go when I did!
Don't feel yourself alone, there are other lunatics too in the wild!
Oh I like the format!! And some more variables I hadn't considered!!
Oh that's cool! I like the system you have going! BTW what app have you got going?
I use Unfold to organise my photos and WatcheePro to keep all the information.
Man Iโm probably going to make one of these later haha. I think Iโm going to include a graveyard section though for watches I sold and why I sold them. By the way, what is the purchase date for? Your last purchase or is it for a specific watch?
I've got a much more boring spreadsheet for that specifically, one page over ๐ just so I can keep track of why I sold something, and how much for.
I have a self imposed rule I'm trying to keep to. Only one purchase every 3 months, to an average of 4x/year. So when I input the date of a new purchase, it automatically calculates the date 3 months later for when I can consider another purchase.
โThe Orientalsโ??
I didn't think 'The Asian Watches' sounded as good? ๐How would you name that group? 2 Japanese, and one Taiwanese manufacturer.
(For context, I'm half Taiwanese, and am using the term 'Oriental' simply to describe their Far Eastern origins)
Crazy people with spreadsheets are fun (I tell my wife this ๐ค).
I get to hear the following phrase a lot, especially when I excitedly try to show her something on it, 'oh I'm glad you're having fun dear'.... ๐
Yes, I have a spreadsheet as well. However, I try not to let my wife see it because it will just confirm what she suspects as to how much I've spent on watches over the years.
Oh no!! Whereas mine forecasts the financial damage ๐ both not quite what my missus wants to see!

Interesting, I'll have a look! What's the user interface like? Relatively intuitive or do you need to actually spend a bit of time to really get a hang of it?

Itโs pretty intuitive but Unfold doesnโt let you do a lot if you donโt want to pay a lot and Iโm not spending my watch money on app upgrades ๐. I can definitely recommend WatcheePro though and that also allows you to group your watches easily.

I wanted to be thorough (and also, maybe I have a little OCD)๐. And it was useful when I entered the details for selling some of these.

Yea I'm not paying for an app either ๐ good stuff, I'll have a wee look

Yup for me it's similar. Just organising all the details can't hurt, and you're right. When it comes to selling and being as open as possible to a new buyer, it's all ready to go!
Weโre all mad here.

I have a spreadsheet as well only bc an app doesnโt exist. Having something attached to the WC app would be really cool, and an add-on I think many would pay for (in-app purchase). You could organize by your collection, category, have a wishlist, deets on the watches, include your pics or stock pics, make your lists public or private. The options are endless.

There's a thought...quick someone pitch it to Max! ๐
