CWC Royal Navy Quartz

I have been adding a few quartz pieces to my collection and I am curious if anybody has handled the CWC royal navy diver (not the 1983 re-issue but just the current issued spec).  Seems a little pricey but I don’t mind spending the dollars if it is quality.

I own the Mk.1 version which has ETA quartz movement, mineral crystal and 60-click bezel. I opted for no-date and matte case finish, though you can also get date, I think day-date, polished case or half polish (sides) and half matter (top and lugs). Mk.2 has a Ronda movement, sapphire crystal and 120-click bezel, but is otherwise very similar.

I love it, personally and was delighted that the least expensive model has the highest quality quartz movement (high-accuracy quartz rated at +/- 20 seconds per year instead of 10 seconds per month like the Ronda.

The matte case is very different from what I expected and is not like that of any other watch. It is more of a sand-blasted finish, but even then, so fine-grained that it almost looks almost like magnesium instead of steel and has a very fine-grained roughness to the way it feels. At first I didn’t like it and thought about sending it back for the polished version, but I’m glad I didn’t as it has really grown on me.

I’ve had the watch for about 3 months now and in that time it has gained 1 second and that is despite rough wear. This is my beater watch as it is the cheapest piece in my collection and the one I wear when I don’t care about it getting smashed against rocks or what-not. I’ve hiked a mountain trail wearing, swam in it, wore it for yard work including digging up and replacing sprinklers, and I’ve thrown it on a black Perlon strap and worn to the office with a suit and tie.

Currently it is on a Zuludiver Octopod strap in burgundy nylon, though I’ll probably move it to a blue or green NATO soon for a different look; it goes well with anything.
