It's inevitable on any forum but Why do collectors chase the watchs they think they should have so their collection is validated by people they have never met.
There are so many posts about you have to have a Seamaster, Speed master, GMT, Pilot latest hype watch etc in your collection.
It's been the same with cars for years "You are not a car guy unless you have owned an Alfa"
We should embrace been different collect what you like and wear it to death ☠️ and let's move away from the should I get X watch I don't like it and it doesn't fit me but everyone else has one and wants one, so that's the watch I should get. It makes no sense.

Fully agree! The reason why you should purchase a watch is that you like and wear it and that it fits you and your life. Wouldn’t care too much about others. But this is probably a journey as well. Tbh, I looked too much into what others think at the beginning of collecting. One probably needs to find his/her way over time!

I am much more interested in folks challenging assumptions of what I think of as a great brand or a watch I’m adding. Always good to read a substantive dissenting opinion now and again.
I think folks that really know themselves will confidently look past these comments as nonsense. I feel this confidence just takes experience learning not just what you like but discovering what you really find yourself wearing… so when I hear these absolutes truths being tossed around it usually signals to me this particular enthusiast hasn’t fully baked and just needs more time in the oven.
Having said all this, the ONLY absolute truth (imo) is that you aren’t a real watch collector until you’ve made some healthy mistakes 😂
Iconic watches are that for a reason, whether it's design, history or innovation. It's not unreasonable to expect those watches to be the most respected & desired. 😉👍
Having a hype watch before it's hyped just means you are a Savant with impeccable taste, that everyone else is trying to catch up with 👍
