ed sheeran x john mayer x hodinkee x g shock
just watch 1 hour youtube video about hodinkee talking watch (john mayer x ed sheeran episode). its odd i think all this fancy talk about ap, patek, and etc and there are one yellow g shock in ed's collection. oh cool celebrity's are also have a g shock like us, but no. this long talking watch video is just one long ad for promoting this hodinkee x john mayer x ed sheeran g shock collab. i feel like i watch longest ad ever lol, you got me here hodinkee. so what do you guys think about the watch?

I had a similar experience watching a video about a year ago. It was a video for a collaboration (I’m not nearly cool enough to say “collab”) between a well known quasi watch guy YouTuber and an established watch brand with history. I’m not really a fan of the YouTuber, I find him boring but that is just my opinion, but the watch brand caught my attention. Long story short the YouTuber goes on for 45 minutes telling us all about the watch brand and how important this collab is to the history of watchmaking etc etc. Turns out they put a different color second hand on a watch they all ready sell. Literally the only difference. Never watched that guy again. Noblesse Oblige 🤣

I’m not sure what the point is. I like that people are into watches, be they celebrities or regular folks, and I think it’s cool some people get a chance to “design” a watch.
In theory.
But it always turns out to be just a watch the company already makes in a different color. And when I think about it, the celebrity isn’t a watch designer, so what’s so great about having them fiddle with the watch?
I guess I find myself wondering what’s so John Mayer about this? It’s just a yellow G-Shock, which might be cool, but Casio was completely capable of coming up with that on their own. And is a second celebrity really adding something? Did they argue over the exact shade of yellow before agreeing on this one?
Bottom line is that I’d like to see something truly new, or no collaborations at all. I know it’s a money grab so it’ll keep happening, but I haven’t seen anything yet that makes me want to spend my own money.

100 % agree with you. its just a different colour combo and i think g shock already has a yellow colour in their collection, if somebody do a collab i prefer something like this (vero x smokey the bear) 🤣. unnofensive colour with a cool bear logo in the dial
