Watches to reflect on

This is a humble quartz watch. It's unremarkable, affordable, reliable, accurate and utilitarian. A friend late last year gave it to me as he was buying his first mechanical watch. His eyesight was not as good as it used to be, and he found this watch did not have a high enough contrast for legibility. No one in his family wanted this humble watch, so he gave it to me. A week or so ago I had caught up with this man over dinner. He was an outstanding individual. Three days later he was dead from a brain aneurism. I have over 40 watches but every Monday, I will wear it and think of him. Does anyone else have a timepiece that makes them reflect on the time we have and the people we know?

It's a beauty and sweet that you honor him by wearing it.

So sorry to hear this, mate. What an honor it surely is for you to wear this timepiece every Monday.

This one is an heirloom from my Dad, and always gives me great delight to wear it in honor of him.

This one is from my Mom, and am keeping it for now in trust as it's supposed to be her gift for my future wife in case I wed again.

Thanks mate. Beautiful tank style watch that was your Dad's. Wear it with pride. My father is still going strong at 88 though I have a number of great pieces to one day remember him by. Your mum's watch is delicate and timeless. Thanks for sharing mate.

100% I have some watches that are not worth a lot, but the story and narrative behind them is fantastic. For some it's just a commodity or object to flex. I like all my watches to tell a story. I have a 1980s Seastar day/date. Great story behind that one. Such a great hobby.

They live on as long as we remember them. I don't know whether it is fortunate or unfortunate to not having such memento in life yet. Great story and reminder to our love/d one.
