Last year I really started getting the itch to buy vintage watches. This itch became a rash eventually, but that is a different story. Back to vintage watches …Because I am miserly, I decided that the $100-$200 range was where I wanted to enter this new niche of the hobby. So to scratch that particular itch, I picked up a vintage Japanese piece, a 1970s Seiko Chariot. I also ended up with 1960s Citizen Ace, completely by chance.

This morning I decided to grab this ol’ thing out of the box; the 1972 Seiko Chariot 2220-0180. A dressy little vintage two hander with a unique textured dial that really steals the show.

Case:

33mm diameter x 36mm L2L x 7mm thick x 18mm lug width.

Dial:

Silver linen textured

Movement:

Seiko cal. 2220 | 24 jewel | hand wound | hi beat

Crystal:

Mineral (replaced at some point I the watches history)

Push/pull unsigned crown w/ unknown WR (likely zero at this point).

That's a Seiko stunner. I have a couple of Chariot models on my watchlist 👍

Great dial. I've been looking for a citizen ace para water but they are always in such crappy condition on ebay

I know this struggle. Getting a decent Citizen Ace is a bit troublesome. Particularly the Parawaters as they seemed to actually be worn. I picked up a dresser Ace completely by chance, as it happened to be in an old vintage wooden toolbox I picked up thrifting - I haven't opened it up or messed with it much, because it is in pretty stellar shape and is keeping decent time.

However, the Parawaters and SuperAces still call to me.
