LOOKING BACK AT THE YEAR 1986

Today is moving day for my younger daughter her husband and Marvie, the lovable Cockapoo to their new home in Markham! She returned some of my books which I am sure she never read but also a stack of mint condition magazines from the 1980s! Harrison Ford on the cover of a GQ, Young Phil Simms somewhere inside wearing designer duds etcetera. I decided to quickly peruse the 300 odd page mag to look for watch ads: one decent full page from Omega, Movado for the famous Museum timepiece, lots of fashion brands including Gucci. I noticed a gold Ebel chrono with the El Primero movement used in a few photos but no formal ad from Ebel. No ads from Rolex, AP, Patek, VC or even Cartier and Breitling which I recall being very popular at the time.

Great time for the actor Harrison Ford not so much for the average watch enthusiast unless you collected Rolex, high horology and vintage.

I am reminded that the present days might be a golden age for being a watch person! Unless you are lusting for watches from Rolex which remains a different topic.

We were all young and green living the best times of our lives. I would not but “all of my tomorrows for a single yesterday”might sound pretty good one day! Haha!

Best, my good man.

Left school and started my first real job with the British Ministry of Defence as an apprentice Boilermaker. No idea what watch I was wearing, but I would definitely have been wearing one, always have.

I wasn’t sure that a post about thumbing through an old issue of GQ could touch some souls but I hope that it brings back memories. Do yourself a favour look up the dictionary meaning of the word NOSTALGIA! You might thank me later.
