A Modern Marriage

Tobias Liverpool

This watch passed to me a little over 20 years ago when my grandmother passed.  After sitting in a drawer for over 100 years I had my watchmaker cut off the bow and add lugs so I could wear and enjoy it.  The movement is a key wind, key set & fusee (chain drive).  The case is sterling and has an inscription with the ancestors name and a date of May 29th 1827.  I still haven't figured out the significance of that date.  My grandmother may have known, but I didn't even know she had the watch until after her death.  I believe the ancestor was a Sea Captian of English origin (James Baxter).

This same man had another watch, also in my possession, which is a thin Lepine style in 14k of Swiss origin.

Does anyone have any ideas on the date or the man?

I'm pretty careful when wearing it.  Some people, including my watchmaker thought it was sacrilege to modify it.  I figured it was just as bad to have it lie in a drawer or on a shelf, unloved and not enjoyed.
