Sub £1k - Doxa 200 or Squale 1951?

Hi all,

I am looking at one of the above for a ‘present’ following some good news recently.

I really like both of these. The Squale in bead blasted and blue, with a mesh strap, or the Doxa in orange with the rice bracelet.

I currently have a Seiko Turtle and a Duro but was looking for a more ‘premium’ piece to compliment these. I tend to prefer divers and ‘tooly‘ watches that can fit in with any scenario.

It will be something I plan to wear 90% of the time for work and out and about, a memory-maker if you will.

Any pros, cons, thoughts or comments? Maybe some other options?

I love the Doxa, I have one due in next week.

I just don't care for the Squale, no reason, just leaves me flat.

I am leaning to the Doxa. I just cant help think Id want the Sub300 or 600, but then the price creeps! I can get the 200 for 950 less 10% + a winder, I can get the Squale for around 720.

Doxa. A friend of mine has one, it wears like a 40 because of the short lug to lug and slight compressor case (bezel is more like 40, case is 42). I sure wish it had 20mm lugs, though when I get one I'm not sure it's ever coming off that bracelet.

Can't beat either company for diving pedigree though, Doxa made the first unidirectional bezel and Helium escape valve. Jacques Cousteau rocked a Sub 300 Sharkhunter. Squale made cases for Blancpain and Rolex before they went in house, and they have compelling designs of their own. I like the Doxa more, neither choice is bad.

I think the Doxa is a bit more versatile for nicer clothes, just my opinion.

Thanks! Im leaning to the Doxa in Orange. Although the black ‘Sharkhunter’ would be more versatile?

I think so. The orange is so orange you can feel it in your bones, which is sort of the point. I like the orange, black goes with everything though.
