One Month with My Omega Diver 300!

So after a rapid induction into this hobby at the beginning of a year with a Vostok Amphibia -> Casio Duro -> Seiko Turtle -> SPB143 (My favourite!) I decided to splash out on a 'grail' watch.

Before all of this I wore a Casio Edifice that my wife bought me probably 4-5 years ago. I had a couple of 'fashion' watches, a couple of G-Shocks, and an F91-W (obviously!).

I had always been content with these, however this year we decided to try for a baby. I was previously into track cars and all of my hobby money went into this. Clearly a baby and a stripped-out 2 seater wouldn't mix!

Selling this planted the seed of getting something 'really' nice. Id always considered a blue Omega Seamaster as the watch I would get if I could splash-out. Ever since the Brosnan-era Bond films, its always been in the back of my mind!

In addition to the baby, I had a promotion at work and a 10 year anniversary. My wife actually got on-board with the idea of an Omega (After I bought her an eternity ring of course...!)! I tried a few on and then decided the blue was for me. After haggling 10% off and a rubber strap thrown in, I went for it. A week later the prices went up!

I haven't worn anything else for the last month. I wear it all the time apart from really heavy DIY. I have a bit of guilt for the rest of the collection, particularly the SPB143, as I really do love that watch. Hopefully soon I will be able to ease these back into rotation! Any tips on this? It feels wrong to put this in a box given the cost, will this wear off after the honeymoon period?

I can't really fault it. The bracelet, the weight, the styling are all perfect for me.

Sorry for the essay. I love this watch and what it represents. I hope to make many memories with it!

It's a common conundrum, compounded by the fact that your collection is very diver heavy already.  I wouldn't feel any guilt over favoring a specific watch for a time.  They're just things, they don't have any feelings.  Wear what you enjoy.

From a longer term perspective, I think there's a collection optimization question.  You clearly like divers and  it is certainly good having multiple if that's your watch of choice.  But it may be worthwhile to figure out if you want to move on from some of them if you view the omega as an explicit upgrade to the rest.

Not a decision to make overnight, but you have the possibility of freeing up capital for other watches you find more complementary.

It's OK to love all your watches equally, despite a difference in price point. But if you are like me, you will find yourself gravitating towards wearing your most expensive pieces more over time. I wear my two most expensive watches approximately 80% of the time and I sprinkle in the cheaper ones. That's why I like to keep my collection relatively lean at about 6-8 watches. That way I don't feel like some pieces get completely neglected.

Yeah I think your right. Im most likely going to sell the Turtle as its almost 100% bettered by the Omega. The Vostok is modded to be more dressy/sporty, but I rarely wore that anyway.

I may shift them both and possibly the Duro, and get a Studio Underd0g chrono or a Tissot Prx.

Well, following this post I have sold the Duro, 'Casioak' and the Turtle.

For one, I had way to many blue watches. I also think the Omega outperforms the Turtle and the Duro, and I have another G Shock which I prefer to the GA2100!

I haven't lost much at all (£20 after postage) in the 8 months Ive had them, so I am relatively happy with that, and they have gone to other enthusiasts!

I have also put an Uncle Seiko Waffle strap on the SPB143, as to be honest the Omega bracelet and its on-the-fly adjustment has spoilt me!

So I now have a vintage diver, a modern diver and a G Shock as the core collection.

Question is... what next!

Considering a dressy/sporty/chrono of some sort, maybe a PRX, maybe an Oris Big Crown, maybe a CW C63.

No rush either way, so will be keeping an eye out.

So to bump this, we had our little girl 3 days ago, wore this the whole time.

Apologies for the awkward angle!
