Rolex for good

I've just fallen down a little rabbit hole. An advert for Rolex just appeared in my IG feed, and the main theme wasn't one of its watches. It was focused on rewilding projects in Chile and Argentina. I followed the link and it took me to the Rolex YT Channel, where there are further videos publicising works around the globe that they support. I have to admit, I'm torn. I admire the fact that they are helping to fund good causes, but I hate the fact that it's also excellent publicity for them.

Hmmm...I dunno. I don't see the Rolex crown emblazoned into the field and the alignment and finish seems a touch off, so I'm inclined to call this project a fake. lol 🤣

But seriously, good works merely for publicity, or satisfying ESG recommendations, is not the best reason, but might be one of the rare times when the ends justify the means. A bit of a toss-up.

I kind of feel the same. I mean, the branding was subtle for Rolex, but it was definitely there. And there is nothing negative about corporate social /environmental responsibility

Well, we know that the early marketing around Rolex was mostly BS. The first water proof case, Mt. Everest, and all that. I see this mainly as an extension, with some real good being done around the world. But they can only do that by making insane profits. And those profits was founded on mythical BS. So definitely mixed feelings. Also, the thing about them being a non-profit only so they can dodge taxes is iffy.

As long as the activities are not a part of a green washing scheme I don't mind. I agree with some of its exaggerated marketing in the past. But if they support and sponsor activists or work to promote awareness I do not see any problem.
