Reflections(on a week in the sun)

A fair few piccys and a little verbiage about our trip to Side in Turkey, hope you enjoy...

The 1st beer(aaah heaven)

Image

Soaking it up

Image
Image

And another of Turkeys finest(or two)

But it's not all about beer n sun Side is steeped in history, was a roman city 2040 years ago

Loads of fantastic acheoligical ruins

And 1 decrepit one

And this was cool, having a meal on a glass floor above a roman house. And talking of food we had some fantastic meals but this place was seminal, Emir, hotel n bistro

Family run,all home cooked, produce locally sourced(the avocados were growing above our heads) 5 course meal avocados salad, breads n dips, cooked spinach n cheese,12 hour slow cooked lamb all the trimmings and strawberries n cream to finish, what a meal!!!

Image

And a beaming host when all plates finished, talked to our host afterwards and I asked him what spice rub he used on the lamb he said ' I old man,if I give you recipe and you open restaurant I be poor old man' Nuff said. Definitely one of the best culinary experiences.

The waterfalls at Manavgat(some much needed vit C,pomegranate juice) on the jeep safari

Remains of the 2000 Yr old roman aquaduct

Image

Bit of a poignant bit,we last came here about 7 years ago and did the same safari, and wondered whats different

Image

No trees, turns out they were devastated by the massive fires that hit southern Europe 2 years ago

All this should have been green pine forest, really sad 😔.

Going local

Better with sprite though👍.                                   And it was a sad goodbye to Side.

Arriving Europe, Athens??

That's it,now for six months of grey and the dreaded C (Xmas)

Image

Up in the loft till next time😪

Now this was our hotel(please don't laugh, well not too much) if you like surly staff,no hot water, electrics that don't work(24 hour lights on in the bedrooms) food, mmm cold sprouts in a grey sauce, cold porridge(no way of heating it) and NOT got a cat allergy(at least 20 around and on your table) think the hills have eyes but the feline version this is the place for you. Now we're not picky stopped in many cheapies in Turkey, spend less on hotel and spend more in the locality(as you should) but this took the biscuit. But a great holiday all the same
