Me Starchild Superluminova ❤️ watches since I owned as a kid my first one, but lately it went totally crazy 🤯. Especially on the Swiss end of the market.
I bought in 1996 for my graduation my first 'real' Swiss made watch... a Rolex Pepsi GMT (16700). Because of the occasion and because it was then most beautiful watch I every seen 😳.
But nowadays brand names and what you get is not in balance anymore.
Of course that is mu opinion
I think I understand luxury and know why a Swiss watch cost what is cost these days. But as I mentioned I have the feeling the balance is gone!
So therefore in 2022 I sold my GMT watch and did start all over.
Focusing on the form first not the fame and manly on my first love the 'diver watch". So now I collect Japanse (dive watches) by Seiko, Casio and Citizen and search for those Chinese 'gems' these day who are giving a lot of quality and joy for prices that are also out of balance ... but then because they ask to little by what the offer :-)
But because of this new perspective the joy in watches and watch collecting is back.
😂😂UPDATE … as much as I love my Japanese / Chinees collection, two Swiss brand caught my attention and I could not shake it off.
Tudor❗️and Longines ❗️
The more I looked in to these brands to more I saw that old balance between what you get 💯 and what you pay 💶.
With Tudor & Longines this was still a little bit in balance and therefore the purchase of a Tudor BB Heritage Burgundy, a Longines Conquest Heritga and a Longines Avigation BigEye is my step back into Swiss made ☺️.
I'm afraid a few more TUDOR's and Longiens will follow ... to be continued ...
Wow ... and my newest trend went from Divers to Pilots ...
The day (I was around 9 years or so) my parents on holiday in Spain give me my first watch. Ohhh men what was I proud. And that feeling did never stop.
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
Some kind of quarts Casio when I was nine. But I remember the feeling that the watch gave me.
Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?
The Rolex 16700 that I bought myself 1996 after completing my study. Wearing it with pride over 26 years and then selling it for 6 times the price I bought it for. Some called me crazy. But for me selling that watch was an action that symbolizes a new start. And started my new found love for watches / collecting.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
Wear what you like what give you a good feeling. Do not wear what others like 🤭
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
Seiko, Casio, and because of the design AP, PP, RM IWC.
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
Many but the name one … IWC DA VINCI PERPETUAL CALENDAR CHRONOGRAPH
