This Bulova or an alternative inner rotating bezel watch?

I’d welcome feedback and thoughts on this Bulova. Haven’t seen it in person but I am toying with the idea of getting it. Partly and simply because a w...

Cocktail hour - Timex Waterbury in Peckham London

London UK. Cocktail hour. Timex Waterbury Automatic. I think it’s got a lovely ‘old world’ look to it whilst not seeming out dated.

Completely agree. Even analogue quartz watches with an alarm function don’t seem to be easy to find (I’d settle for that if I could find a decent one)

“there’s no such thing as grail watch, it is just another itch that needs to be scratched“

well said!! For me there certainly is no such thing as a grail watch. There are a lot of watches I really like the look of and would buy if I they were within my budget but as the man said - you can’t always get what you want! The other thing though is that I wouldn’t want to spend too much money, energy and emotional involvement focussing on acquiring one particular watch as if I am on a quest for the holy grail. This is particularly so if, as I understand it, a grail watch is something that you can afford but is nevertheless a substantive purchase in relation to your financial circumstances. If I get to that point I hope my partner quietly takes me to one side and offers me a pamphlet that points me in the direction of the nearest “Watchers Anonymous” meeting!

I’ve got a very affordable (to me) collection of watches which are easily within my range but the acquisition of which is slightly but by mo means excessively ‘indulgent’, a bit of an unnecessary expense but a treat to myself which I can comfortably afford. If I did have a grail watch I’d be quite worried that knowing me after wearing it for a couple of weeks - thanks to the workings of hedonic adaptation - it would just become another watch in my rotation collection.

I can’t help you with a list either but (in case you haven’t come across it already) the YouTuber who has the “Just the Watch” channel discusses JDM quite a bit in a lot of his videos (he is American but lives in Japan) and there may be some videos about Seiko specifically (not sure!) You may already be aware of this but just in case you weren’t!

commented on Do you consider smartwatches watches? ·

After reading this thread I’ve come to the view that technically yes, ok, a smartwatch is a watch, but in terms of my own worldview it isn’t what I mean by a watch so I maintain my ‘no’ vote although I am fully aware it as an emotive no rather than a rational no! 😊

Ditto!

Absolutely beautiful but unfortunately outside of my budget. Love the look of it, it’s got a retro vibe that I really dig (1950s 1960s design?)
