Crunchy in Vancouver - Days 3 and 4

This week off in Vancouver has flown by too fast. The maintenance on the Airbnb was finally completed and we just decided to audible and not head out to Victoria. It was just too much driving and too long a ferry ride for our 3 generation trip. Instead, we spent time relaxing at the house, at the pool, then stealing some time away for some outdoor fun.

Full moon over the City. Any good tips for nighttime photography on iPhone?

Pool is clean finally. Time for a dip.

And again at night…

Image

Family axe throwing contest? Why not?!

Image

My girl threw a bullseye. I’ve never been prouder.

VanCity is surrounded by all this nature. Just stunning.

Alpine Coaster down a ski slope. So much fun we did it twice.

Wrapping things up with some cruise ship spotting.

I've never been a Vancouver fan, Victoria is much more my style.

We were planning to go but the 1 hour drive to the ferry + 1.5 hour ferry + 30 min drive into Victoria was too much for all of us. That’s 6 hours of travel round trip. We’ll definitely check it out next time. Was looking forward to eating at Redfish Bluefish

I was posted to Victoria for 5 years, I loved every second of my time on Vancouver Island.

What did you enjoy most?

My favourite thing was driving out to Port Renfrew and having a pint and fish and chips at the Port Renfrew Pub.

I loved that within 40 min of downtown Victoria you could be in the wilderness, and it was epic coastal rainforest wilderness.

Tofino/Ucluelet is also one of the coolest parts of the entire planet. I've sailed around the world, travelled to many places, and I would still choose to spend a winter storm weekend in Ucluelet over anywhere else on earth.

Lastly, the beers are great. I became a full-bore West Coast hipster when I was out there, I got into the super hoppy IPAs and have never looked back.

Now I miss the West Coast, and hate Ottawa even more lol...

Sometimes audibles are the best days. Nothing is better than a little pool time mix in with some axe throwing.

All that sounds amazing. Next time I’ll head straight to Victoria and out of the hustle and bustle of VanCity.

Even within Victoria itself there is lots to do, it's a beautiful city. The downtown waterfront is great, and fisherman's wharf has awesome fish tacos.

It’s a tiring trip and needs 3 days to properly make it enjoyable.

I think you made the right choice!

Born in Vancouver and grew up in Horseshoe Bay (west Van). and Also lived on the Island for around a decade, my first job was at Vic General.

I never saw any of the rest of Canada till my late 20s. never having been East of BC, I could only imagine the rest of Canada was similar to Van and Vic.

When I finally spent a ~6 months in Toronto it was a punch in the face from the climate. Got back to BC again ASAP. The downside of living here is everywhere else seems difficult!

After the start of your trip…staying put and relaxing was probably the move to make…plus the property looks pretty great!

Good call. My guideline tends to be if I can’t be at a place at least as long as it takes to drive there, it doesn’t seem worth the effort.
