A story with a happy ending

Back in the early-90's I bought a 16710 Rolex Pepsi GMT. Great watch - rubbish strap. Sold it to buy a 14060 2-line/no date Sub in early 00's and kept that for the best part of 15+ years.

Sold the Sub to fund a paramotor, which at the time seemed like a rational decision, however coming to the present day I have often thought about my old watch, I even tried to buy it back, but the trail went cold.

Long story short - dived back into the market with this 1975 Rolex 5513. Love the classic looks. Not completely original: Service Swiss only dial (replaced around 98/99, I presume), different bracelet with clasp (better than the original IMHO), new bezel and probably a few other parts; however I don't care.

It's a keeper!

Beautiful timepiece.

Congrats.

Lovely piece. Which crystal does it have? If you've a moment for a side shot I'd be interested to see the profile😀

I read that if you send it in for service, Rolex will replace non-originals with new originals?

Don't forget this is over 45 years old and in the early days people tended to use their watches as daily beaters, and if parts needed changing, Rolex changed them. A bit like keeping the original battery on a car - just upgrade and move on.

Today a different story I suppose. I could change the dial back to original (which I prefer by the way) and perhaps the bracelet, but to be honest this is all part of the watches character, so I'm delighted to own it and take it on another journey.
