Seiko Astron SSH001J1

My God. What have I done!? This thing is awesome!

This is the Seiko GPS Solar Astron with the 5X53 movement in it. I saw this watch advertised on a poster in an airport in Hong Kong and decided to have a look for it. They had the newer model but I got such a smoking deal on the older version that I decided to add it to my collection.

This is the model from 2018/2019. It is solar powered, GPS connected, has a perpetual calendar, displays two time zones and can last for 6 months without a charge. It obtains its time signal from a series of satellites connected to the atomic clock signals so it is always accurate (unless deprived of a GPS signal).

If for no other reason, I can use it to set all my automatic watches by ... but I am currently really enjoying it. The finish on it is superb (Grand Seiko quality) and the titanium casing makes it light as a feather. It's a bit bigger than I am used to, but I am enjoying it immensely. I currently flip between the two time zones (which can be swapped back and forth) effortlessly to keep track of when it is best to call a loved one who is overseas.

Brilliant!
