anOrdain Model 2 = in the Wild

This a lovely little field watch out in the field. I got this as a gift from the lovely folks at anOrdain when I helped them pro bono with some legal stuff thereby restoring some people's faith in lawyers (maybe not the guy receiving my letters). The owner, Lewis, had told me he had wanted to engrave something funny on the back to recall the experience, but he didn't know if I'd like the watch and I might want to flip it! So the back of the watch is blank!

Madness. The next time I am in Glasgow, I am getting that engraving!

That is one super unique field watch! Love the handset and that blacker than black enamel dial, bravo 👏

It's actually a dark green. I think it is called moss green. Let me see if I have another photo ... Here's one. I brightened the exposure and boosted the colour a bit. Difficult to see in photos, I guess!

I just went to their website and see that the newer version of the Model2 is available in two sizes one colour of which is "racing green". I think this was an earlier different green. I am quite happy to be corrected.

Haha, guess I misjudged that one! In any case, black or green, it’s a great looking watch.

Awesome piece. Big fan of them and looking forward to buying another from them.

Gorgeous!!

..and for a kind deed no less! 👏

I feel like Anordaine is kind of a UK version of my Kurono Mori, which uses a beautiful urushi tree sap enamel that’s baked & hand polished in Kyoto. Long winded way of saying that both watches have great enamel dials.

Sadly mine cost moola. 😑

I like this. I haven't heard of them before. I will look into it.

Kurono Grand series uses a bonkers labor intensive traditional hand made dial, with a pedestrian Miyota 9000 movement (in 3 its handers).

So it takes some fortitude to drop ~3k when you are primarily paying for the dial.

I admire and want to support the traditional Japanese crafts, like urushi laquer. So not too hard for me to justify the price.

I just recently ordered the Hiroshige (a famous painter) Scar deer leather band for the watch. It’s also crazy expensive, but I guess to be expected for a pretty unique hand made item made from Japan.

Thanks for the information. That's a tough dilemma right there. I've watched a few micro-brands start off with cheaper movements and then, once they hone their craft a bit, move into something more sophisticated. Maybe that will happen in this instance.

I dunno about super lucky. I got onto them in 2019. I don't think there was a backlog then!

Oh myyyy. I've had one Model 2 and had to sell it for some expenses, and longing for another. Yesss!!! Engrave and hold on to it for dear life!!!! :)
