While I had an attraction for watches all my life I owned various quartz pieces based on their aesthetic until I randomly discovered that mechanical watches actually exists, some time in late 2013. Being mechanically inclined, I was instantly hooked. The rest is history...
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
Technically, it would have to be a tiny blue Smurfs watch as a young kid. Sadly, that piece died within few days after receiving it and got replaced by an equally tiny all black Timex analog piece.
Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?
In early 2022, I randomly discovered the existence of the Louis Erard Small Second Open Balance 1931, a slender hand wound piece with a marine kind of aesthetic that really got my interest. The watch boasts Louis Erard older logo and had clearly been phased out for a few years at that point. While I cannot quite pinpoint when it launched, it seems that the piece already existed back in 2014. I reached the company, with the exact reference number, asking if they somehow had remaining unsold pieces. I expected a "no" but 3 never sold watches were still in their inventory and I could secure one straight from them.
