Selling Your Watches

I was wondering who has sold their watches on online platforms?  I have came across sites such as WatchPayer, Chrono 24, and of course eBay which I will never use again.  I am curious what sites those of you who have sold a high end watch have used.  I am so paranoid of scammers out there.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!

I've sold quite a few watches ranging from sub $100 all the way to $10k plus.  I sell primarily on watchuseek, timezone.  Have started on Reddit.  Been very lucky as I really haven't had any problems.  You just have to be smart and walk away from fishy deals.

Thank you

I'll add a few things.

  • Take good pictures in good lighting of the watch from different angles.  Clean the watch!
  • Be honest about the watch's condition, point out any flaws
  • Decide on a price you are willing to accept and don't get flustered by low ballers or tire kickers.
  • Decide on what payment methods you will accept and how, stick to it
  • Always Always Always pay for shipping insurance and tracking or signature required unless you are willing to take a loss on a watch.
  • include shipping/insurance costs in your price, that way you don't haggle with the buyer
  • Always wait for payment to clear before shipping
  • if a buyer seems flaky, unreliable, or untrustworthy move on, there is always someone else who'll buy your watch.  don't chase the sale.

I haven’t sold any watches on sites but I have bought watches from private sellers on Chrono24 on a couple of occasions. I’m happy with the transactions. Take the advise from @aztecknight. They are valid points.

Chrono24 have a deposit service that secure your money. And the buyer is assured a delivery. There is a percentage fee for you as a seller but you will have great exposure for your sale.

eBay has an authenticating service now for watches but the seller fees are ridiculous IMO

Are people buying and selling here on watchcrunch? I’m a little miffed as to why they wouldn’t have a marketplace themselves.

This is a great question and one that I've asked some watch friends more "seasoned" on the selling side of this. They've also recommended posting sales on watch forums like Watchuseek but the one annoyance is that most, if not all, forums have rules that govern who can put up "for sale" posts and when. For good reason of course but if you don't frequent those forums, it does mean you have to first meet those requirements before you can even list something.

For example Watchuseek requires you to be a forum member for longer than 90 days and have posted a minimum of 100 times. I don't know about everyone else, but I don't particularly like other forums (hence why I'm on WC).
