Vostok Amphibia at work in wintry Mid-Atlantic

Got our first proper winter snow. So broke out the old Milspec Vostok Amphibia and salted the back porch/steps, played with the dog, shoveled/salted front walk, and saw kids off to sledding.

Never had any hint of issue with the wobbly crown. Supposedly designed that way to avoid impact damage when crown was out - but it's Russian lore, so take it with a grain of salt.

And yes, this Milspec Dial is IMO the best and legible dial from the functional perspective. Plenty of great fun alternative dials and cases though.

It is very wobbly, but its quite pleasing in a sense as everytime you feel like you are winding something very fragile hahah

The Vostok I had was the same but I just didn't know about it, thought I'd bust it straight off 😂

This one is a 420 case type and well over a decade old, and I think it was NOS at that time. If you dig around on eBay I am sure a used or NOS probably is out there - but it seems not overly common. Good thing is - it should be like $100 at most.

It is a very good workhorse of a watch - and I would recommend it. I have had to only do a service once - which should be cheap and easy for any watchmaker. Currently it needs gaskets replaced to regain water resistance and another service soon.

Good hunting and share pics of you get one!

Great Vostok. I looked at where you took your pictures and wondered if we lived in the same development, they're so similar 😂 Turns out that we are neighbors though: I live 4 minutes over the DE border in PA. Small world

Indeed! Especially in this region. Philly/SE Pennsylvania and Delaware seem very closely linked - being we used to be the lower 3 counties of PA. Jersey does it's thing across the River or Bay lol.

Haha yes it does. I grew up in Jersey. For us, the tri-state was always NY-NJ-CT 😁

I totally see that. Got family up in Princeton - sort of a split town in terms of being NYC or Philly aligned. Or at least with my family.
