State of the Collection

My collection. I like too many different things, and I have an issue committing to just one or two watches, because I love everything that I’ve got. Definitely an aficionado of the affordable and the quartz. I love the idea of having all automatics, but I almost never wear the same watch twice in a week, and I’d go crazy rewinding and resetting my watch every single morning! Once the disposable income increases, I might sell some to make room for more expensive pieces. I have to stick with one box though, because I’d just fill another one if I got it 😂

Incredible collection! I really like the gold Seiko with the blue dial, its gorgeus!!

P.S do you know the name/model of that watch?

It's a double edged sword;

If you collect mechanical watches, you have to WIND them EVERY DAY.

If you collect automatics, you have to WEAR them every 2-3 days.

If you collect quartz, you have to replace the batteries every 2-3 years; and depending on when you bought each watch, if you have a large collection, you could be replacing one or more batteries each month.

But in the end, I think automatics are the way to go; if you let them stop, they just sit there. If you let a quartz battery die, then the longer it sits, the more chance you have that it will leak acid and ruin the movement. (Admittedly, this is a process that takes YEARS.)

If you want to keep your automatics going, you can always buy programmable watch winders, the kind that move the watches a certain number of times per day, to keep the mechanism wound, and then stop. That way, your automatic watch is always ready to go, and you don't run the risk of over-winding it / putting excess wear and tear on it.

Hope this helps! 😎

It’s a Seiko DX from approximately 1971-1972. It was my grandfathers and he gave it to me with a broken bracelet that I was able to get repaired along with a crystal replacement. It runs amazing and I’ve only ever seen one other on eBay, and that one didn’t have the original bracelet. I was told once that it might have come from Southeast Asia, but my grandmother remembers buying it at Lazarus!
