Close! This was the crest for the city of Johannesburg from 1939 to 1997. My watch dates from sometime in the '80s.
I guess you are somewhat correct seeing as South Africa had the British monarch as the head of state until 1961, although we officially gained independence from the crown in 1931.
I have edited this comment an insane number of times, but such is the rich (that's one way of putting it) history of South Africa.
