My exit watch and the exit watches that followed 🤪

My wife has definitely heard the phrase "last watch purchase" many many times.

Maybe i will just let the addiction run its course and not have a definite exit strategy. It is definitely a fun ride but also a costly one.🤑

Care to share your exit watch(es)?

The lies we tell ourselves 😝

Hmmm… I‘ve heard of the alleged “exit watch”, but I don’t think it exists…

Update: an Explorer, Aquaterra, Speedmaster, or Submariner (or maybe the right Alpinist or Tudor diver) could probably convince me, but $$$ says that’s unlikely to happen.

·

The real exit watch is the one you lust for but don't buy.

I'm realizing the same😄

You got this. Just put some cash away for a watch purchase. I used to have a piggy bank to get my first grand seiko. ☺️

How could you resist if you had the funds?

Yeah, this past year I held off on purchasing watches, but the savings went out the window when I needed to help launch one of my children… and the job situation didn’t help (I’m a patent attorney for Ford dealing the UAW strike…when Ford decided that they didn’t have $$$ to spend on lawyers)… there’s always 2024 and beyond 😁. Ultimately, watches are just a hobby and I need to keep that in perspective. At some point, spending money on a nice watch might make sense, but not at the moment.

That is precisely why the exit watch is that elusive. It only exists until you buy it. Once you did, it morphs into a different one.

Take comfort in the fact that the watches will always be there waiting for your money so you don't need to be in a hurry. It may even be advantageous since the watch companies always seem to innovate each year and improve their products so you could end up getting a better made watch by next year or two ☺️

Exactly like saying it doesnt exist 😁

Im both happy and sad about that 😊

It exists, if you love it, afford it, but don't buy it.

Who said the exit watch must necessarily be one you've purchased already?

And if that is the case, your previous purchase is just that.

A bit puzzling, but reasonable.

·

Relatable 😄

Ahh, the exit watch. That was my Sub before I got the Panerai to change it up, and the DJ. All the covers the spectrum. Then the IWC covered the bronze and green to “change it up” the same way the Black Bay did. But I swore the Skipper would round it out until I ordered the Carrera 74 because only 74 were made.

Rabbit hole!!!

I don’t know about an exit watch, but I have a plan for exit watches. Aqua Terra (teak dial, blue or white dial), Grand Seiko SBGA 373, Datejust 36 (fluted bezel, blue or green dial).

·

Best is to put a one in, one out policy. You can enjoy new watches from time to time without making your collection too large. Also you will spend a little bit less new money.

Awesome choices. I was in love with the silver dial aquaterra with the blued hands and indices😍

That's a great idea except im a hoarder and im afraid if i get rid of a watch i would miss it terribly and end up repurchasing it🤪

My exit watch is probably my next watch, a Rolex batman on oyster. I'm looking at picking one up next month pre owned. I've been buying/selling/flipping watches for around 25 yrs. Thats a long time to have an addiction and remain sane. I've reduced my collection to 12, so ones gotta go and the Batman will take its place. The collection will then stay as is and pass to my kids.

Plans are made to be flexible 😁

My resolve is as flexible as a yoga instructor 😅

Great strategy. I too have the batman on my wish list 😍

As long as our wallets are as fat as hippos. One can dream.🤑

I think the Planet Ocean could be an exit watch for me, but I'm not sure I'll ever buy one. There really aren't that many watches that I'd actually consider buying these days, and the ones I do think about would basically be replacements at higher price points. I've thought about replacing my Hamilton Khaki Auto with a Sinn 556A RS. I've thought about replacing my g shock 5610U square with a more premium square. I've thought about replacing my G shock Rangeman with a mudmaster or steel, no compromises type model. I don't really think there is a natural "replacement" for the GSAR, which I wear most days. The Planet Ocean is a big diver + luxury, but it's a lot of money. Maybe I'll wait long enough for some new seamaster model to bait me even harder into buying one.

You actually think things through before making a purchase. Admirable 🫡😆

It's a constant struggle out here.

It's the most classy looking watch out of the Master 11 series in my opinion.👍

Bought this during the summer after finding out about the new release. Of course my wife wanted to half kill me but here we are lol. Btw it’s absolutely amazing and I’m so happy I got it.

Wives half killing us may just be an inevitable part of watch collecting 😁
