Alternate NATO strap configuration

Maybe a lot of you already know this alternate routing, but it seems like most people wear NATO straps the traditional way. I love NATO straps, but I have never liked the extra tab piece that gets folded over near the top of the watch (like this).

I also find this method makes it very wide on the sides of your wrist, positions the strap keepers on the sides, and positions the buckle way around toward the back.

Here is an alternative. You will notice it’s a single pass, so the watch is also closer to the wrist with this configuration.

Image

Run the longer section through the watch as normal, but don’t go through the keeper on the shorter section. The end of the shorter section should be near the middle of the case back. This can be adjusted later as needed to position it the way you want (another advantage).

Fold the shorter section back to align with the buckle.

Run the long section through the keeper and the buckle.

Then run the rest of the strap through the other keepers and fold back as normal.

It is quite a bit thicker on the inside of your wrist, but feels similar to a metal bracelet clasp. I don’t find it bulky or problematic.

This results in a much slimmer profile from the front, the case sits closer to the wrist, and the folded tab is not visible from the front.

Enjoy!!!

Yeah, that’s the only way I can stand wearing a NATO strap.

I just cut off the extra bit and also shorten the bit that goes through the buckle. A few minutes work with a pair of sharp scissors and a couple of matches to melt any frayed bits. No extra bulk and no flappy bits or tucking in needed.

It is the way.

None of that “man bun” knot on top.

This is not just an "alternate" way to do the nato....

Thanks for this, I didn't know you could do it. I will give it a try!
