Grand Seiko - Spring Drive VS Hi Beat 36000

Hi guys, I’m having a really hard time in deciding which type of watch to select. The ones I have in mind is the lake Suwa in the spring drive and hi beat variant. Also, the white birch and the Rikka. Thanks guys!

If I ever buy a Grand Seiko it will be a spring drive. No question about it.

I think I would choose the Spring Drive as the first one, because it's representative of Grand Seiko and a unique technology in the whole watch world.

·

The movement would never be my first criteria, but if the design I want offers both options then I would take the spring drive one for the flagship technology.

·

I don't think there is a hi-beat version of the lake suwa.

My spring drive is the watch I set all my other watches to. It’s phenomenal accuracy. I think every collection should have a GS spring drive in it.

I love Spring Drive. I actually own the 5 Day Spring Drive Lake Suwa SLGA019 & Hi-Beat SLGH005 White Birch. I had accuracy issues with my 9SA5 caliber. It was running 11-13 sec a day fast. I had to send in for regulation. And I’m not the only one. I hope they’ve straightened out those regulating issues but I can’t be certain. I just spoke with a guy at our RedBar meetup last week that had to send his in for a regulation too. That shouldn’t be the case on an almost 10k watch.

I picked the high-beat for myself, but I also own a non GS spring drive model.

I really like how the new white birch has an amazing finishing and look of the movement. While I understand the Sprong drive, I just kind of wished the movement was a bit more decorated

Ya unfortunately I don’t think there are as many opportunities to decorate a Spring Drive movement like a mechanical caliber. They do what they can however. Heat blued screws, internally beveled jewel sinks, & mirror anglage where possible
