Like Dive/Field Watches? Get a Seiko Alpinist!

I recently got myself an Alpinist, and although it's only been just over a week, I think it might be becoming my favourite watch (we will see after the honeymoon period wears off).

I've recently finessed my taste in watches, deciding that dive watches and field watches are (pretty much) exclusively what I like. Mainly due to their robustness. However, I love changing straps and having the ability to swim with my watches. Dive watches are difficult to dress up with nice leather straps - it feels like putting alloy wheels on a tank at times. And while field watches are more strap friendly, I never quite feel right going swimming with a watch that doesn't have a screw down crown - most field watches only have 100m water resistance.

But then I came across the Alpinist spb117j1, the black sheep of the Alpinist family, the model without numbered indices (of which I'venever really been a fan of). This watch fills the gap between dive watch and field watch, in my opinion. It's a sports-type watch, without being too "sporty". It's versatile, it's robust (200m, screw down crown, screw down caseback), it can be dressed up, it's black dial makes it super wearable, and it has amazing history.

It slots into my collection amazingly. All it's really missing in order to make it the perfect everything watch for me, would be a GMT function. This is available on another Alpinist, although I'm not a big fan of how that model looks.

Anyway, if there is anyone out there who is on the fence - and is attracted to the everyday wear and toughness offered by dive and field watches - check out the Alpinist.

Indeed we think alike, as I do agree that this black sheep may be the cooler of the family!

For me, perfect everyday wear would also include GMT but also dropping something off... That Cyclops...

My first watch was the Sarb017 Alpinist and I really liked it.

I never seen this Model but it looks really good also.
