Your one watch that you can’t get rid of.

Here is my first “real” watch. It was given to me after working for a restaurant for 5 years. I ended up working there for 11 years total. Started there as a busboy and ended up in management. I learned a lot at that job, good and bad. It’s not much of a watch but it’s one that I’ll always fix and keep in the rotation. It reminds me of someone I once was.

Also I like that it’s a 36mm, it makes me look at some different case sizes.

What’s the watch that you can’t see getting rid of?

Note: I’ve sent it back to citizen once for a new capacitor. Other than that it’s been a champ.

Easy. I will never, ever sell or trade my Breitling Crosswind Special. First true luxury watch. I wanted it for several years, but just couldn’t stand the idea of spending the money. Plus, I go on cruises and I’d see it offered at a 20% discount. I kept waffling, waiting for the local AD to have a sale. Eventually I took my now ex-wife on a cruise as a Christmas present, and decided to just buy the watch. She was pissed, even though we weren’t married and the money was all mine. I kept the watch, ditched the girl, and my life has never been better!

Breitling was the first luxury watch I tried on and got that “oh, so that’s the difference” feeling. Since then I have gone down the rabbit whole. I love the premiere line.

I don’t think I’ll ever get rid of my Hamilton Field Khaki Auto.

That one will be hard for me to give up. That was my first real watch purchase. I love mine.

Don’t think I’ll ever give up my SKX007. It was gifted to me from my brother and really opened the horology world for me. I know I could mod the crap out of it but I enjoy it stock. Even though I have nicer watches in the box, I don’t see this one leaving.

Due to sentimental value, I have several, but the top of the (small) pile is my Breitling Chronomat B01 41. This watch was purchased after I got promoted up to my current role, and it was meant to commemorate a significant moment in my career.

For context, I had spent about 6-7 years in my (now previous) role under less-than-stellar management. I felt over-stretched, undervalued, and held-back career-wise. I had also tried to seek alternative employment multiple times, on average seeking out 2-3 job roles per year with little luck.

Thankfully, management changed around, and I managed to get the nod for a promotion, which meant an awful lot to me.

I'm learning loads and feeling quite overwhelmed, but when I do take my Breitling out of the box every once in a while, I am appreciative of the opportunity granted to me, as well as reminded how far I have come in my journey.

I also came to truly understand how time waits for no man - we have to seize every opportunity we can to make the most of our existence here on this rock.

Most of my watches were bought with the idea of keeping them, therefore there is obviously some emotional baggage attached to each which would make it difficult to part with them.

However the one that will probably remain in my collection forever is the SARB017, the green Alpinist and the last true value from Seiko.

"Time waits for no man." That's why when you see a watch you like, buy it right then, at that very moment. Also, we keep hearing that you can always get more money, but you can never get more time. Yes you can. Buy another watch.
