New Year, new rules for me.

I’m going to try something new for me this year. I normally don’t allow myself to buy many watches, but in 2023 I bought 10 watches. Granted all but 1 were below $100usd but still. I don’t want to be acquisition guy.

This year I am going to try to stick to just 1 or maybe 2 new watches.

Here is where you, my adoring and enthusiastic reader come into play. I want your suggestions of pieces to look at. In the past I have meen more of an indy or micro guy so I’m sticking with that theme with the caveat of solar and regular quartz.

If you are going to recommend a mechanical, please nothing Seiko or Epson, no date, and regular lugs. Also below $700. I am growing to like divers again, pilots, field, and gada are where I’m at.

Thanks for reading and lets have some fun here. I do have a few pieces that I have my eye on but lets see what we find.

I also want to say that I am going to look at every single suggestion, maybe not right away but I will check them all out.

I know you said you'd like for the suggested watches to be below $700 but I can't bear the thought of not telling you about the Maen Manhattan 37. Automatic movement, integrated bracelet with a textured dial in 4 or so different colorways, with a stainless steel bracelet and case, for $773.

I will take a look. Who knows what the future may bring.

If funds were unlimited I’d go buy a blue Tudor BB58 and Tudor Ranger right now.

Tudor is an incredible brand. Oh, I also forgot to mention that Maen is quite a young microbrand. I believe they only became a brand about 4 or so years ago but their watches are absolutely top-notch.

Nodus Sector Sport, to me one of the best values in the $500 range.

Well if you are getting into divers then a citizen eco drive diver is a good choice or a solar seiko tuna. If you don't mind going over 40mm then a Casio Oceanus is a great choice. Knot watches do some interesting solar/quartz/kinetic watches and their straps look really good too. If you want a field watch then the timex expedition is available in quartz and solar. Honestly you are spoilt for choice and I've probably made it more difficult rather than easier. Edit : sorry missed the micro brand bit but Knot still works for that.

That's a good shout, I forgot about that one. Maen do a good one that's a bit more expensive but apparently very high quality.
