32mm Bernex Barracuda, I believe from the 1960s. It is a confused watch, it wants to be sporty/fieldy with its fun text, waterproof steel case, brushed dial, and Incabloc shock protection, and then it has gold indices and handset with no lume. What are you? Well, at £50 it can be on rotation. This one is in particularly good condition, so it has been looked after. I was drawn to the Barracuda text and the indices, those types of “6”s are just a weakness. Bernex are still around, and they make pocket watches that are not cheap. I’ve rarely seen a vintage Bernex for less than £300, so there is that.

Another lovely watch, Chris

A little piece of trivia associated with this watch; it’s worn by Kirk Douglas in the movie The Heroes of Telemark.

Different model although it is a Barracuda - that one has all 12 numerals, different text in the northern hemisphere, and a white dial. It would also be too late as a watch to be used, so it’s not the greatest watch casting.

Interesting though…

I was watching an episode of The Avengers, one of the original 1960s ones, and John Stead was wearing a Majex, also similar to one that I actually own. It’s an interesting coincidence.
