💰👑Value MVP: WatchCrunch Tournament

Here's one for those among us who love a watch that delivers outstanding value for money- who doesn't? This is a tournament in which we vote to determine the watch that WatchCrunch deems to be the ultimate value proposition!

Value, of course, is very subjective, but I've selected 16 watches that are commonly touted as outliers in terms of value. All 16 watches provide an excellent product for the price and are often comparable to much more expensive pieces. The price ranges vary, so this isn't about the cheapest watch, but the one that presents the most bang for your buck.

The 16 options are:

1 Seiko 5 GMT SSK Series

2 Casio G Shock DW5600

3 Citizen Tsuyosa

4 Seagull Chronograph 1963

5 Longines Spirit Zulu Time

6 Zelos Blacktip MOP

7 Timex Marlin Chronograph

8 Lorier Neptune IV

9 Farer Erebus Midnight

10 Baltic Hermetique

11 Orient Bambino II

12 Christopber Ward The Twelve

13 Mido Ocean Star GMT

14 Brew Metric

15 Tissot PRX Powermatic

16 Hamilton Khaki Field Murph

The tournament will follow a double-elimimation format in which 2 watches will go head-to-head in each round.

Vote away!

Trouble is, bang and buck are both also subjective...

I'll vote 2, Casio G-Shock "Square". It'll survive going through hell and you could lose it there too without losing much money.

Gotcha. I’ll be sure to vote

Bracket 6 is off, imo. It's not exactly comparing apples to apples. That being said..... HYPED to see how this tournament plays out. 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Well, it's kind of not fair to have the GShock 5600 in here, really.

No other watch can even come close to the sheer magnitude of value this offers:

a world timer,

an hourly chime,

an alarm,

a chronograph,

a perpetual calendar,

impeccable legibility,

shock resistance,

a wearable case size,

and finally, accuracy that a Rolex Superlative Chronometer could only dream about...

Oh, and it's $75.

It would take 4 or 5 different watches and many thousands of dollars more to get that in mechanical land...

😉

Hmm, some of these watches aren't even in the same weight class. If you had added the Gshock you might as well add a sundial. If you had established brands like Longines vs a microbrand like zelos. Even their price isn't in the same bracket. Feels like a rigged tournament. 😢

For sure. I wonder whether the DW5600 will take first prize in this tournament. But then again, maybe a resin electronic quartz watch doesn't present as much value as an impeccably finished, high quality integrated sports watch to some..? I guess that's what's interesting about what we consider to he "good value". That's also why I chose a double elimination bracket, so the C Ward won't just yet knocked out directly by the G Shock.

I get you - to me, something like a Longines can have a similar value proposition as an Orient. While they're at very different price points, one could argue that you get the same value (higher value for higher price with the Longines). So that's my thinking- not necessarily "which is the cheapest good quality watch" but rather "is the value of the most expensive watch on this list comparable to the value of the cheapest". Hope that makes sense.
