Hodinkee closing shutting down watchville - the final nail?

Folks, just listened to the latest worn and wound news of the week and right at the end there's a massively important throwaway line.  Apparently, Watchville is getting shut down.

1. I haven't been able to confirm this - can anyone else?

2. (If true) does this tell us anything we didn't already know or merely confirm what we already thought.

No really, I wanted to know what you/we think is happening... I think I'm missing the larger POV...

oh - ok.  in the aftermath of the Jack Forester (sp?) leaving and the influx of new folk including a "style editor" to manage Hodinkees "style marketing vertical" (or words to that effect) there's a sense that :

a - they were definitely becoming more lifestyle, less watches and
b - moving away from content and more into sales (and content to support sales)
c - the original community/enthusiast focus has gone and become pure retailler/buyer.

For me maintaining Watchcrunch made zero commercial sense for Hodinkee but it was a (perhaps the last) link to their old "we are here for you" watch community spirit.  Hence my wondering is this the last nail in that coffin?  Or conversely perhaps you'd never seen them as more than simply a sales/commercial provider with good marketing?

Sorry, watchville.

·

Please explain watchville to me and it’s significance for hobbyists.

I have had no interest in Hodinkee beyond what people repost in various forums.

Looking for the comments and causes why  Watchville was shut down, I found this place that suits as a perfect replacement.
