Defective SNJ025 (womp womp)

So, I did a NWA for the Seiko SNJ025 yesterday. I was hesitant to buy a Seiko, due to QC issues that I've seen on quite a few models. Well, I decided to go forward, and buy this model anyway, as I've wanted it for a while.

Well, I should have trusted my gut and brain. This SNJ025 is defective. It has been factory resetting itself whenever I'm out in sunlight, while keeping the time correct on the hands. In the photo on the post, you can see that the digital readout states that it is 12:24 AM, while the hands show about 12:58. The time on the hands is correct, while the readout (and module), were factory reset back to 1/1/2019.

Now, I was not aware that this defect was possible with the SNJ025, however, after running into it last night, I did some googling. Apparently, a lot of 2023 model Arnies (all colorways) can have this issue. In the last 24 hours, the watch has factory reset itself 3 times, with the hands remaining the correct time on each event.

Well, I'm bummed. Talk about a crappy first experience with Seiko. I'll be notifying the shop that I got the watch from, and will be contacting Seiko for warranty work. Hopefully they can fix it, but from what I saw, they were unable to for most folks.

Well, at least I'll be wearing my SMP again 😂

That sucks! I was thinking of it for my first Seiko as well.

I'd hold off for a while. This was the response from my dealer.

I have over ten Seiko watches and had zero issues with them. Where did you buy this watch. This sounds like a point of sale issue.

Did you buy them within the last 3years? That’s approximately when seiko watches started to suck.

I bought from an authorized Seiko dealer, and received a brand new SNJ025. According to the dealer, this isn't the first current production SNJ025 they've seen have this issue.

Sad to hear i haven’t had a issue with mine

Not fit for purpose, ask for a refund, unless you really love it.

Mine is doing the same thing.

I'm sorry to hear that my man. I was told by Seiko USA to just send it back in, as they were aware of the defect. I'll be recording some video tonight, to document the issue. I could not find anything about it on YouTube.

Yeah Trev, it's going back. I talked with Seiko USA, and they are aware of the defect with 2023 Arnies. I really like the watch, but I refuse to accept a broken timepiece that had issues from the manufacturer.
