Stand aside Casio Oceanus S100 !
Well……..I had been watching the many favourable reviews about the Casio Oceanus S100 model.
As most of my watches are automatics, I wanted a decent grab and go which would look the business but not break the bank.
On the face of it the Casio had everything I wanted, atomic timing, solar charging, sapphire crystal etc, however the deal breaker for me is the titanium case and titanium integrated bracelet which more or less precludes any strap changes.
Undaunted, I managed to get my hands on one in the flesh and look at it. I was very underwhelmed, it felt like a plastic toy and was scratched all over. The owner said he hadn’t been hard on the watch, it just seemed to show scratches far more than any other stainless steel watches he owned.
Anyway I have been researching for a while and came across this Citizen.
Atomic timing, eco drive, sapphire crystal, solid end links, no integrated lugs so I can put it on anything, and almost identical specs to the Casio, and £100 cheaper.
I pulled the trigger and am absolutely pleased as punch with it. Looks far better in the flesh and in every department in my opinion blows the Casio out of the water, finishing included. Now this model is really under the radar, they are hard to find though but I snagged one off Amazon which said last one available. Its that good, I’ve not had it off my wrist. It’s very Seiko Alpinist looking and the blue face is one of the best colours for a blue faced watch I’ve ever seen. Seconds hand hits the markers spot on, and it took 30 seconds to set up. One happy buyer.
It makes me wonder what else there is hiding in the Citizen catalogues to rival some of the Seiko cult models.
