I've loved watches all my life. On my 60th birthday, I was called a watch collector. Never thought of myself as a watch collector. So now I wear the title as a badge of honour and I'm a happy man :)
It all started when I was 16. I gave some money to my brother to buy me a dress watch when he was in Japan.
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
It was a Seiko quartz super slim dress watch.
Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?
No, but I wish I still had all the watches that I have owned so I could.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
Keep every watch that you have loved. Even if they do't work and you can't afford to fix them. Things change and you may one day be able to revive them and enjoy them again.
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
I do plan to buy a watch while traveling Europe at the end of 2024. I want to buy it from a watch maker from one of the countries we'll be visiting, being France, Germany, Austria, Ireland or England. So I'm doing a lot of research around them.
The following are what currently interest in though:
KronSegler, Melbourne Watch Company, Orient Star, Zeppelin, Baltic, William Wood, Jacques Lemans, Traska ETC ETC ETC
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
Grand Seiko SBGD201. This time piece ticks all the boxes that I feel make a near perfect watch.
