Servicing - how long until you get your watch back?

I put my watch in for a service 5-6 weeks ago, and I really wanted to avoid pestering the AD, especially as I'm on a waitlist for a Rolex OP.

I briefly searched online and saw that 4-6 weeks is reasonable to expect. After ringing the AD, they said they'd get a specific salesperson to ring me back when they'd finished with a customer... 2 days pass with no call. I rang back again, not expecting the watch, but just an ETA of when to expect it.

I felt like they treated me like an idiot.. "it's too soon for ANY update" they said on an answerphone message. "You only dropped it off in "March".

Was I too much of a pest? Or were they being asshats? Perhaps both?

And how long should a watch (with extra complications) take to come back? I think it will have been sent to the manufacturer in Switzerland - Reservoir.

Thanks for reading the essay y'all, have a nice day :)

I popped by my local AD to get my Rolex 5513 serviced; ETA ~10 weeks

I've generally found TAG and Rolex to be c12 weeks.  Vintage stuff in a good local watchmaker has been >16 weeks but parts are not easy to get for that stuff.  AD's tend to send it, receive a quote or repaired watch and pass them on.  Not much additional value add

In my experience, about 3-5 months is average.

I actually just received an Omega back from service at the NJ service center. It took about 2 weeks for the repair estimate and another 10 for the repair.

I only have two data points, one partial.

  1. I sent an Oris into their USA service vendor this past fall. It was received by them on Sept 22 and shipped back to me on January 7, so roughly 14 weeks.
  2. I also have a Christopher Ward currently being serviced. I shipped that out from Hawaii to the UK on April 12 and just got an email on May 26 that it was finally assigned to a technician. So roughly 6 weeks so far.

Hope that helps.

Then my 16 days turn around to overhaul, replace a broken gear and lube at a local Mom & Pop place was super fast .  He even buffed the case to a nice gleam. But mine is some brand that most peeps never heard of with generic ETA movement.

Thanks for the helpful info!

Can't believe hawaii-uk is swifter than uk-switzerland, but the gods have decided that's how it goes.

Cheers!
