This to me is not inherently snobbery. I see this a lot in another hobby of mine where once you become very knowledgeable and experienced in your passion, seeing people just starting that journey can be jarring.
In a way, it's more of a prerequisite to gatekeeping in my mind. I often find myself wanting to not let other people call themselves fans (of a media or medium) because they don't like it as much as I do or know as much about it as I do. It's just something we got to keep working with and to not let it cloud our judgement of others.
You just seem frustrated to me when people don't do their research to show their passion for watches. That's not really snobbery in my eyes. It could become it, but it's more on the lines of pained by ignorance I guess because of your own immense passion for it. 😅
With all that said, I don't know that much about watch history yet, so excuse me! 😂
Of course, if this isn't the case, don't mind me. Just trying to add a different perspective to the conversation. ^^
