Some reason to my madness

I was curious if there was any logic or themes to my watch collecting. Turns out there seems to be. I’m curious if others have identified themes to their collecting.

I have two main themes it seems when it comes to collecting watches: history and uniqueness.

I’m really into collecting watches that are inspired by decades past, Or re-issues or homages to actual past watches.

I also like watches that show time in unique or different ways, or that are just overall unique or different.

And then there’s the ones I still want:

If you wanted to write on a theme for a teacher in elementary school and you submitted "History", your teacher would tell you to be more specific. If you reworked it you might come out with: "Nostalgia for America's post-war industrial past but updated with modern technology and materials."

You have vintage tastes but you don't have any interest in watches that are worn out or don't work reliably. You may also prefer the modern size. I have written before on themes here and elsewhere. Feel free to ignore my "improvements".

It is a gloomy overcast morning here in Toronto but I am sensing real love and light in your collecting strategies. Your interesting collection invigorates me oddly. Thank you. I consider myself to be an enthusiast but I just purchase the occasional timepiece that brings some joy and doesn’t break my bank account.

Yes, well, I’m not writing a doctorate dissertation here nor splitting hairs. I save that level of nuance for my job. I don’t have the time, energy, or desire to be so nit-picky with a fun post. Lucky for you that you do.

I collect in groups of three, either by brand or by price point. I try to get three different colors and use cases in each mini-collection.
