As a noob to watch collecting, I am hoovering up knowlage and starting small, cheap watches to get a feel for what I like. I'm seeing 1st hand experiences of Seiko which are not very positive, yet the reviewers seem to think they are great.
I wasn't even a watch guy when my good lady bought me this quartz (sur314p1) watch a couple of years ago. I've been wearing it proudly. Now I've learned a few things, I realise that the second hand only hits about 1/3 of the idices/minute markers.
It was only when I recently got a Casio Edifice and I saw it hits almost every marker dead on, and cost a fraction of the price, that I started to feel a bit miffed. I understand the Seiko has more expensive materials but still, it has had an impact on my opinion of Seiko.
Best bottom and middle tier brands for quartz?

Nothing wrong with seiko
Ignorance is bliss, isn't it? I've heard people say that any quartz consistently hitting on the marks is fantasyland delusion and I'm going with that. There was detailed explanation of the impossibility, or perhaps profound improbability of it all, but all I can say is that it made sense at the time.
The second hand can be removed if it truly annoys you. It's not like it's a mechanical watch where you you it to see if it is running.

All my Promasters hit each mark. Especially the Aqualand. Dead on each one.
Seiko is great for the price, especially in the value category.
Me vs Seiko haters

Have to agree with @SpecKTator , ppl love to hate on small little nuances.
So it doesn't hit EXACTLY each market, big whoop. If you want pinpoint "hitting" wear an F-91W.
If you own a quartz where it hits, cool. If you own one that doesn't, don't sweat it. Rarely does one live their life or need timing to the exact hitting of the second indices. I know I don't, and I use my watches for more than just timing the 👌🏻 pour over or espresso shot/hard boiled egg.....trust me....🤔😎🤙🏻
If you are really concerned, by any HAQ or GS quartz movement, they are designed to be that accurate and hit each indice.

Coming in hot 🤣
It’s fine to discuss pros and cons cause it keeps the conversation going. Folks just need to have a little perspective. Nothing in life is perfect. Is it damn good? Yup. Then move it along. 👍

O mos def.
Love critiquing small nuances,.just temper that since it gets blown waaaaaaay out of proportion, and scares off interest for those just getting in.
I have never seen Seiko as a price/quality value proposition. Others do. Your mileage may vary.
👍. Already got 2 Timex ha. Weekender and a field watch
